MacMurray College to 'Take Back the Night'
March 28, 2013
MacMurray College will host its 14th annual Take Back the Night Rally on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00pm in McClelland Dining Hall on campus.
The Rally focuses on ending violence that is common in our world, including child abuse, rape, domestic violence and dating violence, racism, homophobia and elder abuse. Professor Emily Ralph and Professor Jeannie Zeck will serve as masters of ceremony for the night.
Ruth Ann Bertram, prevention education coordinator from the Phoenix Center in Springfield, IL, will give the keynote address, “Has Social Media Affected LGBTQ Hate Crimes?” This multi-media presentation will go over the influence of social media and how it has given a new outlet for hatred and violence against LGBTQ people.
After the presentation, audience members will be invited to share their own stories, which, in the past has been solemn and moving. A candlelight walk around Annie Merner Chapel next to the dining hall will be held at the conclusion of the rally.
Refreshments will be served. The rally is free and open to community members who want to help end the cycle of violence
