Professor Active at Conference

Jeannie Zeck delivers paper, chairs panels in Louisville.

Jeannie Zeck, associate professor of English and Theater at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, spoke last month at a conference at the University of Louisville, in Louisville, KY, presenting the paper “James Baldwin’s ‘Sonny's Blues’: The Narrator's Initiation into Black Manhood.”

She also chaired two panels at the The Literature and Culture Since 1900 Conference, which was held Feb. 21-23. One panel was on Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando entitled “Woolf’s Orlando: Multiplicities of the Liminal Body,” and the other panel was entitled “Sherman Alexie's Fiction and Poetry: Race and Double Consciousness.”

 Her participation in the conference was funded by a MacMurray research and travel grant.

 Originally from Richfield, MN, Dr. Zeck received her bachelor’s from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN in 1976, an MFA in Acting from the University of Minnesota in 1980, and was awarded her Ph.D. in 20th century American literature from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1995. Before coming to MacMurray, she taught at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. She lives in Jacksonville and has been teaching literature and theater at MacMurray since 1999.
