MacMurray professor wins teaching award

Dr. Matt Wiediger honored by the United Methodist Board of Higher Education.

MacMurray College cognitive psychologist and assistant professor of psychology, Dr. Matt Wiediger, received the United Methodist Board of Higher Education Teaching Excellence Award for 2012 – 2013. 

The Teaching Excellence Award is given to a person who exemplifies excellence in teaching, civility and concern for students and colleagues, and is committed to value-centered education and service to students, the institution and the community. He will be honored in a ceremony Thursday, Dec. 6 at 3:30pm in Kathryn Hall. 

Dr. Wiediger received his bachelor’s in psychology from Washington State University in 2003, as well as his master’s degree (2006) and Ph.D. (2010) in experimental Psychology from Washington State University. 

Dr. Wiediger, who began teaching at MacMurray in 2009, is renowned around the College as an approachable teacher who innovatively helps students connect new knowledge to something familiar to them. The first of his family to attend college, he is an engaging educator armed with an inspiring range of knowledge and teaching methods. 

He is a faculty member who not only likes his students, but takes an interest in and transforms their lives. He serves as chair of the Student Life Committee at MacMurray and chair of the Admissions Committee, along with several other committee assignments.
