Volleyball team plays for a cure

MacMurray, IC face off for cancer fundraiser

JACKSONVILLE, IL – The MacMurray and Illinois College volleyball teams will play in a matchup to support the local Mia Ware Foundation and a cure for breast cancer.

             The “Set, Serve and Rally for the Cure” match will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Bill Wall Gymnasium in the Jenkins Education Complex on the east side of the MacMurray campus. Admission to the match is free and it is open to the public.

             The fundraising event will offer a silent auction, raffle and other activities, with all proceeds going to Jacksonville’s Mia Ware Foundation, the local entity that raises money for cancer research, education and care of patients and their families.

 The silent auction will include such items as a softball autographed by Olympic gold medalist Jennie Finch, a baseball autographed by retired Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, a 150-piece tool set, golf certificates to The Links and free hotel stays and numerous other donations from local businesses. There will also be a serving competition. For a $1 donation, participants can win gift certificates and other prizes by serving a volleyball into a hula-hoop.
