MacMurray Commencement festivities this week
College’s 160th graduation ceremonies begin Wednesday.
MacMurray College’s 160th Commencement will take place 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at Annie Merner Chapel, at the corner of College Avenue and Clay Street in Jacksonville. Chris Lu, Cabinet Secretary for President Barack Obama, will be the speaker and will be awarded an honorary doctorate. He will speak on “The Legacy of a MacMurray Education.”
Here is the schedule of events:
Wednesday, May 4
5:30 p.m. – Senior picnic at the President’s House, 339 E. State St., Jacksonville
Friday, May 6
4 p.m. – Social Work pinning ceremony at Thoresen Recital Hall in the Putnam/Springer Center, State and Clay streets
5 p.m. -- Senior Reception at McClelland Dining Hall
7 p.m. – Nurses pinning ceremony at Annie Merner Chapel
Saturday, May 7
10:30 a.m. – Baccalaureate church service at Annie Merner Chapel -- speaker, Gregory Vaughn Palmer, bishop of the Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church
1:30 p.m. – Commencement, Annie Merner Chapel -- speaker, Chris Lu, Cabinet Secretary to President Barack Obama.
