MacMurray recognizes student achievements

JACKSONVILLE, IL – MacMurray College honored students for academic achievements, leadership and service at the Honors Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 14.

College President Colleen Hester presided over the award recognition and welcomed student honorees and their guests. David Fitz, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, announced 2010-2011 academic honors, Sally Cayan, vice president for student affairs, presented leadership awards. The 2010-2011 honors students are:

Stephanie Long received the Della Blackburn Osvald Memorial Award for superior scholarship in preparing to enter a field of medicine. She is a senior from Springfield, IL, majoring in biology.

Ashley Kochman received the Louise Sheppard Memorial Award for delivering the best speech in Rhetoric 103. She is a sophomore from Jacksonville, IL, majoring in nursing.

Tyler Stephenson received the Patricia Lanahan Schweiter Memorial Award for outstanding achievements in the creative arts and the Clara Strubinger Sinclair Award for Music, for demonstrating excellence in music and outstanding musical qualities. He is a junior from Jacksonville, IL, majoring in liberal studies.

Lee Chiles received the Burmeister Award for Poetry for best poem of the year. He is a senior from New Berlin, IL, majoring in nursing.

Heath Choate received the Accounting Department Award for superior scholarship as an accounting major. He is a sophomore from Marissa, IL, majoring in accounting.

Kelsey Smith received the Art Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior art major and the E.H. Foersterling Memorial Art Award for dedication to intellectual and professional promise in art. She is a senior from Fillmore, IL, majoring in art.

Matt Duncan received the Tillard Truscott Laurent Memorial Award for outstanding creativity in graphic arts. He is a senior from Jacksonville, IL, majoring in art.

Joseph Butler received the Athletic Department Award for Highest Academic Achievement. He is a senior majoring in Physical Education from Pittsfield, IL.

Kelli Ruppel received the Athletic Department Award for Highest Academic Achievement. She also received the Biology Department Award. She is a senior from Chandlerville, IL, majoring in biology.

Tina Arnold received the Roger William LaFavre Award for Business. She is a senior from Nokomis, IL, majoring in business administration and interpreting.

Zack Arnett received the Criminal Justice Award. He is a sophomore from Worden, IL, majoring in criminal justice.

Anna Dickhut received the Grace Fitch Award for Elementary Education. She is a senior from Camp Point, IL, majoring in elementary education.

Nicole Speiss received the Grace Hasentab Haskell Award for Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She is a senior from Lisbon, IA, majoring in deaf education.

Mary Rose “Lu” Bauman received the Education Department Award for Special Education. From New Berlin, IL, she graduated in December 2010 with a degree in special education.

Ryan Sichting received the Marjorie A. Howard Physical Education Award. From Martinsville, IN, he was awarded a bachelor’s in physical education in December.

Lauren Beauchamp received the Creative Writing Award and the Ruby Neville Berlin Memorial Award for English for the best senior thesis. She is a senior from Meredosia, IL, majoring in English.

Joseph Andruch received the English Department Award. He is a senior from Edinburg, IL, majoring in English.

Katherine Hester received the Rhetoric 103 Wesley Mathers Memorial Award for accomplishments and talent in public speaking. She is a sophomore from Manteno, IL, majoring in psychology and business.

Nathan Doyle received the History Department Award. He is a senior from Jacksonville, IL, majoring in history.

Amy Goodman received the Martha Blackburn Glasgow Award for Music for significant contributions to the College music program. She is a junior from Peru, IL, majoring in interpreting.

Kristina Poore received the Nursing Department Award for the highest grade point average in her graduating class. Poore is a senior from Murrayville, IL, majoring in nursing.

Anne C. Lunt received the Nursing Department Award for exemplary leadership and professionalism in nursing. She is a senior from Rochester, IL, majoring in nursing.

Tia Nicole Wessel received the Nursing Department Award for exemplary leadership and community service in nursing. She is a senior from Virginia, IL, majoring in nursing.

Brittni Lian Hickox received the Pat Meyer Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in psychiatric nursing. She is a senior from Jacksonville, IL, majoring in nursing.

Kimberley Rhodes received the Psychology Department Award. She is a senior from Pecatonica, IL majoring in Psychology.

Audra Glenn received the Social Work Department Award, the Olive L. Austin Award for Exceptional Executive Ability and the Richard Nesmith Leadership Award for leadership as a MacMurray Student Association student. She is a senior from Carlinville, IL, majoring in social work.

Anissa Lane received the Social Work Department award. She is a senior from Bluffs, IL, majoring in social work.

Rebecca Huff received the Jewell A. Mann Memorial Award for special interest in and outstanding aptitude for working with the elderly. She is a senior from Chapin, IL, majoring in social work.

Christopher Sardgon received the Matt Milne Sport Management Award. He is a senior from Bellwood, IL, majoring in sport management.

Teresa Marcotte received the C.M. Fisher Concert Choir Award for superior leadership, musicianship attitude and character in choir. She is a junior from Kankakee, IL, majoring in interpreting.

Henry Alexander received the Wendell S. Dysinger Award for outstanding leadership and service on campus. He is a senior majoring in business administration from Chebanse, IL.

Steven Etheridge received the Elizabeth Rearick Sportsmanship Award. From Sweet Water, AL, he graduated in December 2010 with a bachelor’s in physical education and a minor in coaching.

Matthew Stock received the Dean W. Reiter Memorial Award for exemplifying a high sense of responsibility and leadership among peers. He is a senior from Chapin majoring in nursing.

Julie Gerken received the John Austin Van Hook Prize for Outstanding Campus Leadership. She is a junior from Naperville majoring in interpreting.

Note: The Viola Blackburn Fearon Award to a senior exhibiting superior scholarship in Spanish and the Conlee-Kent Memorial Award to a junior who best represents the College’s ideals are not listed, because the recipients declined publicity.
