Box seat for history

February 24, 2011

Dr. Rand Burnette, professor emeritus of history at MacMurray College, will speak on a historical Jacksonville luminary who is probably underappreciated and lesser known than other historical Jacksonville figures. His talk, “Who is He?” will be 7 p.m. March 24 at the Thoresen Recital Hall in the Springer/Putnam Center, located at the corner of State and Clay streets on the MacMurray campus.

The personage whose life Burnette will explore had a significant impact on MacMurray and Jacksonville and was an eye witness to one of the most well-known events in 19th century America. Dr. Burnette will be providing other clues to the identity of this influential Jacksonville resident before revealing his identity and details of his impact on MacMurray, Jacksonville and beyond.

This special event, sponsored by the Morgan County Historical Society and MacMurray College, is free and open to the public. There will be a punch and snacks reception afterwards.
