Three fall sports athletes receive conference honors
Megan Usherwood, Taylor Soat and Karl Tooren are recognized for excellence.
Three Highlander student athletes have received conference honors for their performances this fall season.
Senior Megan Usherwood, from Glenarm, IL, has received First Team All-Conference honors in soccer. She led the SLIAC in saves the entire season finishing with 256 saves. A special education major, Usherwood played in all 19 games for the Highlanders this season as goalkeeper. In her college career, Usherwood tallied 840 saves.
Usherwood received Second Team All-Conference for her performance in the 2009 season, when she totaled 257 saves.
Junior Karl Tooren, from Hoffman Estates, IL, has received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in soccer. Tooren, who is majoring in physical education, led the Highlander offense with three goals this season. Tooren has four goals and one assist in his college athletic career at MacMurray.
Sophomore Taylor Soat, from Galena, IL, has received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in volleyball. The deaf and hard of hearing education major finished the season with 179 kills, 118 blocks, and 1.37 blocks/set. She also led the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in blocking.
During her freshman year at MacMurray, Soat led her team in kills with 150 and blocks, tallying 70. She was ranked third in conference in blocking during the 2009 season, in which she also received Honorable Mention All-Conference.
