Area student named Lincoln Laureate
Kelli Ruppel is honored for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.
Kelli Ruppel of Chandlerville, Ill., has been named a Lincoln Laureate Award recipient. Annually, each four-year, degree-granting institution of higher learning in Illinois nominates a Laureate who is then approved by an award committee. The Laureates are seniors who display excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.
Ruppel will be honored at a ceremony on Nov. 6 at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., where Gov. Pat Quinn will present the awards. Ruppel will receive a Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Medallion, a certificate of achievement and a grant of $250.
Ruppel is a senior at MacMurray where she is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. Ruppel plays on the varsity volleyball team and has received St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) All-Academic Team honors. She is also president of the MacMurray chapter of Mortar Board, a national student honor society, and she is involved in Biology club. Ruppel received the Della Blackburn Osvald Memorial Award for excellence in the study of biology and the Conlee Kent Memorial Award, which is given to a junior who superbly represents college ideals. She was also voted MacMurray’s 2010 Homecoming Queen by the students at the College.
Ruppel graduated from A-C Central High School in Ashland, Ill. in 2007. She is the daughter of Phil and Tricia Ruppel in Chandlerville.
