Highlanders participate in 'Fortyfor40'

As part of NCAA Division III Week recognition and celebration of intercollegiate athletics at MacMurray College, the Highlanders are highlighting eight significant achievements per day on social media platforms. Titled “Fortyfor40,” the program also celebrates 2013-14 as the 40th Anniversary of NCAA Division III.

Each of the ten intercollegiate teams at MacMurray will be highlighted and the three primary themes (academic success, athletic achievement, and campus/community service) will be featured during the week.

Below is a summary of each of the “Fortyfor40” highlights.

Monday — Focus on Campus/Community Outreach and Service

  1. 9:00 — Volleyball Has Been Busy "Serving"
  2. 10:00 — Highlander Soccer Teams Establish Recycling Program
  3. 11:00 — Soccer Teams Rang Bells for Salvation Army Kettle Campaign
  4. 12:00 — Women’s Golf Volunteers at Northridge Hills Golf Course
  5. 1:00 — Men’s Golf Assists with Grace Methodist Street Fair
  6. 2:00 — Women’s Basketball Volunteers at Chamber Streak Fry
  7. 3:00 — Men’s Basketball Rings Bells, Helps with Safe Halloween
  8. 4:00 — MacMurray Football Volunteer Hours at 342 and Counting

Tuesday — Campus/Community Outreach Wrap-up and Athletic Achievement Highlights

  1. 9:00 — Softball Team Volunteers at Jacksonville Pumpkin Festival
  2. 10:00 — Baseball Team Helps at “Concert in the Cornfield”
  3. 11:00 — Men’s Basketball Team’s 19 Wins Is 2nd-best in Program History
  4. 12:00 — Volleyball Team Has Improved Winning % Each of Last 3 Years
  5. 1:00 — Highlander Baseball Team Already Eclipses 2013 Victory Total
  6. 2:00 — Highlander S.A.A.C. Representatives Have a Cumulative 3.55 GPA
  7. 3:00 — S.A.A.C. Rep. Zach Mudd Earned 2nd-Team All-UMAC Honors
  8. 4:00 — Logan Woolridge Aces #8 and Is Medalist in Dual Win Over IC

  2. 10:00 — Austin Mickan Named to SLIAC Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team
  3. 11:00 — Alexis Apodaca-Fresquez Named to All-Sportsmanship Team
  4. 12:00 — Chad Allen Named to UMAC Football All-Sportsmanship Team
  5. 1:00 — S.A.A.C. Rep. Carmody Named to SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team

  4. 12:00 — Bozarth (Men’s Soccer/S.A.A.C.) Is February Student of the Month
  5. 1:00 — Pratt Earns 2nd-Team Men’s Basketball All-Conference Honors
  6. 2:00 — Highlander Student-Athletes to Clean Up Town Brook Tomorrow
  7. 3:00 — Petefish and Willeford to receive Highlanders’ Top GPA Awards
  8. 4:00 — Brady Slagle Earns 1st-Team and SLIAC Player of the Year Honors

Saturday — MacMurray College Athletics Community Outreach and Service Project

Approximately 40 student-athletes and coaches representing the Highlander football team, women’s soccer team, and the athletic department staff participated in the East End Town Brook Clean-Up.
