MacMurray bestows student awards

MacMurray College held its annual Honors Recognition Program on Thursday, April 18, at Thoresen Recital Hall on campus. The following students received awards for achievements in their academic fields:

  • Joshwa Mason, of Huntsville, TN, received the Lavern “Bud” Harbour Award for dedicated service to MacMurray College.
  • Lucas McClellan Brady, of Jacksonville, IL, received the Louise Sheppard Memorial Award for the best speech in Rhetoric 103.
  • Chelsea Verticchio, of Jacksonville, IL, received the Art Department Award, for superior scholarship as a senior art major, and the Tillard Truscott Laurent Memorial Award, for outstanding creativity in graphic arts.
  • Anna D. Myszka, of Springfield, IL, received the E.H. Foersterling Memorial Art Award for dedication to intellectual and professional promise in art.
  • John Paul Anderson, Jr., of Hinsdale, IL, received the Clara Strubinger Sinclair Award for Music for demonstrated excellence in music and outstanding musical qualities.
  • Morgan McGee, of Camp Point, IL, received the Martha Blackburn Glasgow Award for Music for significant contributions to the College music program.
  • Austin Mickan of Jackson, MO, received the Rhetoric 103 Wesley Mathers Memorial Award for accomplishments and talent in public speaking.
  • Teagan Corrine Sachs of Carmel, IN, shared the Cultural Studies Award for the best essay Cultural Studies 300.
  • Mariah Butcher, of Flat Rock, IL, shared the Cultural Studies Award for the best essay Cultural Studies 300.
  • Kylie Funk, of Roodhouse, IL, received the Creative Writing Award for special interest and outstanding aptitude for creative writing.
  • Lauren A. Beauchamp, of Meredosia, IL, received the English Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior English major.
  • Kathleen Marie Hammock, of Jacksonville, IL, received the Ruby Neville Berlin Memorial Award for English for the best paper in an English class.
  • Kady M. Darr, of Shipman, IL, received the Social Work Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior social work major.
  • Nicole Quarrels, of Springfield, IL, received the Psychology Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior psychology major.
  • Kevin Kelley, of Chapin, IL, received the Biology Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior biology major.
  • Gabrielle Douglas, of Quincy, IL, received the Belinda D. Campbell Memorial Award for superior scholarship as an accounting major.
  • Adriana Moran, of Beardstown, IL, received the Roger William LaFarve Award for Business for superior scholarship as a senior business major.
  • Nathan S. Loy, of Bloomington, IL, received the Matt Milne Sport Management Award for superior scholarship as a senior sport management major, and the Athletic Department Award for Highest Academic Achievement for super superior scholarship as a graduating senior athlete.
  • Jamie Ingram, of Athens, IL, received the Criminal Justice Department Award for superior scholarship as a senior criminal justice major.
  • Ashley Kochman, of Jacksonville, IL, received the Nursing Department Award for highest grade point average in the graduating nurses’ class.
  • Scott Cobern, of Chatham, IL, received the Nursing Department Award for exemplary leadership and professionalism, and the Dean W. Reiter Memorial Award for a high sense of responsibility and leadership among peers.
  • Amber Sperry, of Pleasant Plains, IL, received the Nursing Department Award for exemplary leadership and community service.
  • Amber Kirschbaum, of Rockford, IL, received the Pay Meyer Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in psychiatric nursing.
  • Sarah Coultas, of White Hall, IL, received the Majorie A. Howard Physical Education Award for superior scholarship as a senior physical education major.
  • Taylor Soat, of Galena, IL, received the Grad Hasenstab Haskell Award for Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for excellent scholarship, professional and social qualities; the Olive L. Austin Award for Exceptional Executive Ability for a senior woman and graduate; and the Athletic Department Award for Highest Academic Achievement for superior scholarship as a graduating senior athlete.
  • Mendy Overly, of Jacksonville, IL, received the Conlee-Kent Memorial Award for the student who best represents College’s ideals as a junior.
  • Derek Crouch, of Chatham, IL, received the Wendell S. Dysinger Award for outstanding leadership and service on campus.
  • Caty Kelley, of Chapin, IL, received the Richard Nesmith Leadership Award for finer qualities of leadership and scholarship as an MacMurray Student Association leader.
  • Anastasia Morwell, of Quincy, IL, received the John Austin Van Hook Prize for Outstanding Campus Leadership in the 2011-2012 academic year.
