The MacMurray Highlanders men’s basketball team collided with conference foe Westminster College Saturday January 26th at home. The Westminster Blue Jays left with the win, 82-67 in overtime.
This game was much closer than the score indicates. As usual, MacMurray put an emphasis on post scoring. Junior Brady Slagle and sophomore Clayton Whitlock were the beneficiaries, each scoring in the double digits. Westminster pushed the ball on the break often and kept the game tight. MacMurray lead 36-34 after the first 20 minutes. The Highlanders gained a ton of momentum after an alley-hoop dunk from junior Dylan Burton, and went on a short run late in the game. The Blue Jay defense stepped it up though and the game went into overtime. MacMurray ran out of steam and put up only three points in the extra period.
The Highlanders have dropped four straight games, three straight in the conference. Their record is now 9-10, and 6-4 in conference. Wednesday, January 30th they will head to St. Louis as they try to right the ship against SLIAC rival Fontbonne University.
