Highlanders Fall to Finlandia 4-0 in Season Opener

The MacMurray College women's soccer team opened the 2014 season with a 4-0 loss at home against Finlandia University (Mich.).  Saturday's match was the first of eight games of intercollegiate soccer over the weekend at MacMurray College.

Coach Bill Koeppen's club trailed only 1-0 at the half but gave up an early goal and two late goals in the second half.

Erica Sandoval scored the last two Finlandia goals and assisted on the first goal to pace the visiting Lions. 

Adrianna Osuna had six saves in recording the shutout for Finlandia.  Highlander keeper Amanda Gorell had fives saves for MacMurray.  Ameelya Kuhl led MacMurray with two shots on goal.  The Highlanders were outshot 13-10 in the game.

Finlandia (1-0) will face Eureka College (0-1) in Sunday's first game of the day; while MacMurray (0-1) will face Northland College (1-0) at 3:00 tomorrow.  Northland defeated Eureka 5-0 on Saturday.
