The MacMurray College baseball team overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat Eureka College 8-7 Thursday afternoon in a conference game at Lenz Field.
The visiting Red Devils jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Highlanders roared back with six runs in the third inning. Eureka came back with three runs in the fourth to knot the game at 6-6; and the Highlanders scored the game-winning runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple by Aaron Krummrich and a run-scoring single by Alec Quandt.
Quandt and Jake Walch were both 2-4 with a runs scored apiece and Walch batted in a pair of runs. Krummrich went 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dillon Hodges went 1-4 with and RBI and a run scored.
John Brockhouse (2-1) pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief to get the win; while Kyler Smith pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch his second save of the season.
Coach Justin Fuhler's team improved to 12-23 overall and 7-18 in SLIAC play; while Eureka falls to 7-24 overall and 7-16 in league play.
The Highlanders will break for final exams before closing out the 2014 season next Wednesday with a conference doubleheader against Fontbonne University.
