Highlanders Split with Spalding University

After getting only one hit in a 9-0 loss in game one, the MacMurray College softball team hit three home runs and earned a split with Spalding University with a 9-5 win in game #2 at Palmer Field.

Spalding ace Kelci Flener struck out eight and allowed only a Michala Swanger double in getting the win for the Golden Eagles in game one.

Coach Lexy Determan's club bounced back in game two with a strong pitching outing from Kendyl Cummins and three big home runs in a 9-5 win.

Cummins struck out nine and did not allow a walk in picking up the win on the mound for MacMurray. 

Daerial DeGroot went 2-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.  DeGroot had a three-run homer that gave the Highlanders a 8-3 lead.

Jenalee Stine went 2-3 with a two-run homer, Roni Grgin went 2-3 and scored a run, Tiffiany Hazelwonder went 1-3 with a solo homer, Breezy Walton had a two-run double and Mika Morgan went 1-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Coach Lexy Determan's club improves to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in SLIAC play; while Spalding is now 17-12 overall and 10-4 in league play.

The Highlanders travel to St. Louis tomorrow for a non-league twinbill at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
