MacMurray Softball Team Drops Pair vs. Benedictine U. at Springfield

The MacMurray College softball team dropped a pair of non-league games Monday afternoon against Benedictine University at Springfield.  The Highlanders lost 10-0 in five innings in the first game; and dropped a 10-2 decision in six innings in the second game.

Roni Grgin broke up the Eagle's no-hit bid with an infield single in the top of the fourth inning.  Michala Swanger (0-2) struck out three but walked seven batters and gave up seven earned runs in the loss.

Kendyl Cummins took the loss on the mound in the second game.  The Highlanders scored their two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a single by Roni Grgin and a double by Breezy Walton.  Walton went 2-3 to lead the Highlander hitting attack.

The Highlanders fall to 0-3 overall; while Benedictine University at Springfield improves to 7-12 with the doubleheader sweep.

Coach Lexy Determan's team will be at Eureka College on Wednesday, when they open up SLIAC league play with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
