The MacMurray College baseball team overcame deficits of 6-1 and 14-10 on its way to a 15-14 victory over Aurora University in extra innings Friday afternoon at Lenz Field. The wind was blowing out and a bright sunny sky made fly balls an adventure in a game that featured 29 runs, 40 base hits and fourteen extra-base hits.
Coach Justin Fuhler's squad won its second straight game and pounded out 27 hits in the game. Four Highlanders collected four hits apiece. Aaron Krummrich went 4-7 with a home run and three runs batted in. Alec Quandt, who went 4-6, led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a ground-rule double and scored the game-winning run on Austin Cory's infield single.
Tyler Watson was 4-6 with an RBI and a run scored, and Raustin Zahradka went 4-7 with an RBI and two runs scored. Other offensive stars for the Highlanders included Jeremy White, Dillon Hodges and Derek Crouch. White went 3-7 with two runs batted in, Hodges went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Crouch went 2-7 with a 3-run home run and three runs scored.
Kyler Smith (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by throwing three scoreless innings for the Highlanders.
Aurora University was led offensively by Tanner Oymaian (4-5 with a triple, home run, 4 RBI and three runs scored) and Dillon Popovich (3-5 with a HR and three RBI).
The Highlanders evened the record to 3-3 with the win; while Aurora falls to 2-9 on the season.
MacMurray and Aurora will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Lenz Field, with the first game beginning at noon.
