The MacMurray College baseball team improved its record to 2-3 with a 4-2 victory over Robert Morris University-Springfield Thursday afternoon at Lenz Field.
Senior lefthander Anthony Willeford (White Hall, Ill./North Greene) went seven innings and struck out eleven RMU-Springfield batters to raise his record to 1-0. Willeford allowed two runs on six hits and did not walk a batter.
Senior reliever Connor Kurrle (Highland, Ill./Highland) pitched the last two innings and picked up his second save on the year. Kurrle worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth by coaxing a game-ending 4-3 double play.
Freshman outfielder Raustin Zahradka (Pana, Ill./Pana) went 3-4 with a double and a RBI and was the only Highlander with multiple hits in the game. Junior catcher Aaron Krummrich (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) had an RBI double in the sixth inning that gave MacMurray a 2-1 lead.
Senior DH Ross Parcel (Hallsville, Mo./Hallsville) led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a pinch-hit double. Freshman Austin Cory (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) came in to run for Parcel and scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch in seventh. Cory also added a RBI single to center in the eighth inning.
Coach Justin Fuhler's Highlanders (2-3) will host Aurora University tomorrow in a single game at Lenz Field (4PM) and in a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m./3:30 p.m.). Saturday's games will also be played at Lenz Field.
