The MacMurray College men's basketball team closed out the 2013-14 regular season with an 87-69 victory over Iowa Wesleyan College Tuesday night in Wall Gymnasium. Prior to the game the team recognized six seniors (Dylan Burton, Cole Busch, Paul Crowder, Spencer Pratt, Jeremiah Rolf and Brady Slagle) as part of Senior Night at MacMurray College.
Junior center Clayton Whitlock paced a balanced Highlander attack with fifteen points (on 6-7 shooting from the field) an six rebounds. Senior center Cole Busch was perfect from the field (5-5) and added twelve points, five rebounds and four assists; and Dylan Burton was also in double-figures with ten points.
Iowa Wesleyan was led by Michael Neff, who went 7-11 from 3-point range and scored a game-high 21 points. The Tigers fell to 6-19 overall and 3-15 in SLIAC play to close out their season.
Coach Todd Creal's club raised its overall record to 19-6 and 15-3 in SLIAC play. The Highlanders will face Webster University on Thursday night in the first of two SLIAC semi-final games at Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. The Highlanders will be the #3 seed in the four-team tournament; while Webster U. (which also went 15-3 in conference play this year) will be the #2 seed. Top seed Spalding University will face #4-seed Westminster College in the second semi-final on Thursday night.
The SLIAC Conference Tournament Championship game is scheduled for 1PM (Eastern) Saturday at Spalding University.
