The MacMurray College women's basketball team saw its record dip to 0-8 Thursday night after a 67-40 loss at Millikin University. The Highlanders started slow against the Big Blue and trailed 35-13 after the first half. Cold shooting and eighteen first-half turnovers were the major factors in MacMurray's 22-point half-time deficit.
Coach Derek James' club rallied in the second half and cut Millikin's lead to thirteen points (47-34) midway through the half. Cydny Saxer, who led the Highlanders with ten points, made the score 54-40 with just under four minutes left. Unfortunately, Saxer's basket was the last scoring for Highlanders and Millikin (4-4) went on a 13-0 run to close out the game and the home-court win.
Brittany Czaplicki paced the Big Blue with a game-high fifteen points, Bria Williams added ten points and a game-high seven rebounds, and Jasmine Johnson blocked six shots.
Emily Elliot, Carley Prince and Shay Potter each chipped in with six points for the Highlanders.
MacMurray College will return to action on January 7, when they travel to Westminster College to begin the 2014 portion of their schedule with a SLIAC contest.
