Furious Highlander Rally Falls Short vs. Fontbonne

January 22, 2014

The MacMurray College women's basketball team battled back from a 20-point halftime deficit (43-23) before dropping a 68-64 conference contest to Fontbonne University Wednesday night in Wall Gymnasium.

Coach Derek James' club tied the game late but the Griffins made key free-throws down the stretch to ice a key SLIAC road victory.

Freshman guard Cydny Saxer led the Highlanders with thirteen points and junior center Megan Duisen added ten points and eight rebounds in the tough loss.  Emily Riddle and Ali Rebbe chipped in with eight points; and Carley Prince and Breezy Walton had seven points apiece.

Nicole Joerger led all scorers with sixteen points for the visiting Griffins, who improve to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in SLIAC play.  The loss drops MacMurray College's record to 3-12 and 2-6 in conference play.

Coach James' club hosts Webster University on Saturday at 1PM in Wall Gymnasium in another key league contest.
