Short-handed Highlanders handle Blackburn 77-55

January 9, 2014

The MacMurray College men's basketball team battled without two starters and Brady Slagle etched his name in the Highlander record books in a 77-55 victory over Blackburn College Thursday night in Wall Gymnasium.

With starting postmen Clayton Whitlock and Dylan Burton sidelined with injuries and illness, Slagle responded with a game-high 22 points and twelve rebounds to pace the Highlanders, who trailed the Beavers most of the first half. With just under five minutes left in the game, Slagle knocked down two free throws that gave him 1,000 career points.  After his second free throw, the crowd gave Slagle a standing ovation upon hearing of his entrance into the 1,000-point club. Slagle, who recorded his 500th rebound in the Highlanders' last game, also eclipsed 100 steals in Thursday night's win over the Beavers.

Spencer Pratt kept the Highlanders close in the first half and ended the game with nineteen points and eight rebounds.  Kollin Keltner and Hunter Sutton added ten points apiece; and Cole Busch and Paul Crowder led the Highlanders with five assists each.

Jamie Moore led Blackburn with sixteen points and six rebounds; Tommy Ulinski added thirteen points, and Jon Lowry was also in double figures with ten points.

MacMurray College improves to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in SLIAC play; while Blackburn falls to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The Highlanders travel to Louisville, Ky., tomorrow where they'll face SLIAC foe Spalding College on Saturday afternoon.  The game will be aired live on the Highlander Sports Radio Network.
