There were some signs of improvement and definite bright spots Saturday afternoon in the Highlanders' 80-62 loss to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in the MacMurray College Classic tournament. Coach Derek James' team shot 81% (17-21) from the free throw line and junior center Megan Duisen led the team with sixteen points and nine rebounds. Duisen shot 62% (8-13) from the field, while the rest of the Highlanders struggled from the field at 20% (14-70).
KayDee Carmody had twelve points; and senior guard Gabby Douglas added ten points six rebounds and five assists in the loss.
Stephanie Moore led the Pomeroys with a game-high seventeen points. Kennedy Nelson had thirteen points and seven rebounds; and Na-Shaunda Rayford chipped in with ten points and four steals.
For her two-day performance, Duisen was named to the MacMurray College Classic All-Tournament Team. She averaged thirteen points and seven rebounds in the tournament.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College improves to 6-4 overall; while MacMurray College falls to 0-7. The Highlanders travel to Millikin University on Thursday night in their last game before the Holiday break.
