MacMurray appoints athletic director

July 12, 2013

MacMurray College has hired Scott McClure, an experienced administrator and communicator, to be its Athletic Director, beginning July 22. McClure comes from Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, where he was interim athletic director.

“I am thrilled to be joining the MacMurray College athletic department and campus family and look forward to playing a role in the continued growth and success of Highlanders’ athletics,” said McClure. He replaced Dane Pavlovich, who, as previously announced, left MacMurray after the last academic year to accept another position.

“Dane Pavlovich laid a solid foundation for MacMurray athletics during his tenure here,” McClure said. “I look forward to working with the administration and the Jacksonville community to build on that foundation.”

At Bethany, McClure was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the college’s 18 intercollegiate athletic teams, which compete on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II level. This includes day-to-day operations of the department, setting recruitment and retention levels and being responsible for compliance with institutional, conference and national policies and regulations. Like MacMurray, Bethany is a private college with about 600 students.

“MacMurray is excited about bringing Scott to campus,” said James Maxwell, vice president for Academic Affairs and Student Life, who oversees MacMurray athletics. “His combination of administrative skills and media expertise will help the Highlander teams reach the next level in academic achievement, competition and recognition,” he said.

Prior to arriving at Bethany as interim director, McClure served for 12 years as a manager of championship sports for the NAIA in Kansas City, MO. Previous to that, he served as sports information director at Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI; and as a media coordinator for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  Scott also served as an assistant women’s and men’s basketball coach during his career at Siena Heights University.

McClure received his bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights University and his master’s degree from the University of Toledo in Ohio, both magna cum laude in English/Communications.

He and his wife, Michelle, currently reside in Lawrence, KS.  They have a son, Tyler, 28, and a daughter, Kalli, 23.
