Football players “Play 60” with local school students
April 15, 2013
A group of MacMurray College football players walked across the street with their jerseys on and some practice equipment. What happened for the next 3 hours was a football program giving back to a community that has given them so much.
Mac football players took part in a play 60 type event at Our Savior School in Jacksonville, Illinois, where they spent time with 4 different classes teaching them football drills and skills. The classes were 7thgraders, 5thgraders, 1st graders, and finally the kindergarten class. It was a great experience for the football players to give back and have fun with the kids. The kids definitely enjoyed their time, especially getting to tackle the tackling dummy. Smiles were everywhere, and the football program looks forward to doing it again next year.
This “Give Back to the Community Event” is one of the many that are led by the players. The team has also spent time at a nursing home, held a free youth camp, and also helped with sandbagging and flood prevention efforts in Meridosia, Illinois.
