March 23, 2013
On Saturday, March 23rd, the Highlanders dropped two games in their doubleheader to Webster University 10-0, and 7-2.
Junior Anthony Willeford received the pitching nod for the Highlanders in game one, facing a tough offensive Webster lineup. Willeford pitched three innings, giving up six earned runs. Highlander pitchers Conner Kurrle, Taylor Rodgers, and Kyler Smith struggled to put a stop to Webster’s offense as they posted a 10 run mark on the scoreboard.
Mac could not string any offense together as they were shutout by Webster pitchers Steven Dooley and Jason Gray. Mac tallied just four hits in the contest. Freshman Brock Hill produced offensively with two hits in the game. Freshmen Moises Soto and Jerry Scott recorded a hit apiece for the Highlanders.
Mac attempted to produce some offense early in the second game. The Highlanders got on the board in the first inning to tie Webster 1-1 after Moises Soto singled in Jordan Phillips for Mac’s first RBI in the contest.
Webster put together an explosive second inning scoring seven runs in the second inning. Highlander pitcher Brad Passini allowed just three earned runs in the inning with the rest of the runs attributed to Highlander errors.
Mac added another run in the bottom of the second inning but that would be the end of their offensive run. Webster made their seven runs stand up as they defeated the Highlanders in game two of their doubleheader.
The Highlanders outhit the Gorloks despite the score. Freshman designated hitter A. J. Webb tallied three hits in the game. Seniors Jordan Phillips and Jared Dooley each contributed with two hits apiece.
MacMurray looks to bounce back in the win column this week. Unfortunately all games may be postponed due to rising accumulations of snow over the weekend. Be sure to visit www.mac.edu/athletics for schedule updates.
