The MacMurray College women’s basketball team faced a tough conference match up Thursday night against Spalding University. After a slow start and a 33-18 halftime deficit, the Highlanders started to get things turned around in their favor. They were able to fight through Spalding's stifling press and began the second half with an 8-0 run. MacMurray gained a one point advantage with 11 minutes remaining, but 40 minutes wasn't enough time to decide a winner of the contest. In overtime senior Kelsey Anderson knocked down a plethora of three point shots to keep it close. A huge three by senior Whittney Wade in the closing seconds tied things up at 54 and forced a second overtime. The Highlanders ran out of steam though in the second overtime and just could not execute their shooting. They fell to Spalding University in a heart breaker 67-55 and are now 3-5 in the conference and 5-9 overall.
Senior Kelsey Anderson topped the Highlanders in scoring in the contest racking up 16 points. Freshman Gaby Douglas and senior Whittney Wade tallied 10 points apiece. Senior Amy Radford led the team defensively with 11 rebounds in the game while Kelsey Anderson snatched 10 rebounds.
The Highlanders will next take the court on Saturday, January 19th at 3pm. They will clash with non-conference opponent Iowa Wesleyan College who currently posts a 5-13 record on the season.
