Highlanders Fall Short Against Ranked Washington University

The MacMurray College men’s basketball team opened up the new year with a home contest against Washington University on Wednesday, January 2nd.
The highly ranked Washington University Bears held the advantage over the Highlanders as they took the contest by a final score of 77-62. Despite the final score, the Highlanders fought hard against the Bears cutting the lead numerous times to just three points.
MacMurray played Washington tough throughout the first half, but their lack of rebounding lead to them being down by 10 points at half time. The Highlanders let the game slip from their reach in the second half as the Bears came out strong stealing the ball 12 times against the MacMurray in the contest. MacMurray’s turnovers and lack of rebounding lead to Washington University’s comfortable lead in the second half of 17 points. Mac ended the game with just 16 rebounds against 38 for Washington.
Sophomore Clayton Whitlock led the Highlander offense with 14 points in the contest while sophomore Spencer Pratt tallied 12 points. Senior Luke Bishop helped with five assists.
The Highlanders will continue to play highly ranked opponents for preparation of their SLIAC league play. The Highlanders will welcome in Greenville College on Saturday, January 5th at 3:00pm as they begin conference play at home.
