The MacMurray College women’s soccer team opened up their season with a 0-2 record competing in two contests hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The Highlanders opened up their season against host Buena Vista on Friday, August 31st, falling to the Beavers 7-0. The Beavers offense attacked early in the contest, netting five goals in the first period. They recorded seven shots on goal against the Highlander defense and 24 shots overall in the contest. Freshman Kelli Sells recorded eight saves in the contest in net.
The team was back to action on September 1st in Storm Lake facing Northland College for a 2:00pm contest. The Highlanders were able to keep the game tight after the close of the first half, only trailing by one. Northland’s offense sparked in the second period however, tallying three more goals and taking the game from the Highlanders by a final score of 4-0. Senior Alicia Mayfield totaled eight saves in goal. Freshman Briana Jungnickel and junior Kristen Elsila each recorded a shot on goal.
MacMurray women’s soccer will continue play on Wednesday, September 5th as they welcome Lincoln Christian University on their home turf for their 2012 season home opener.
